For the best chance of conception, you should have intercourse around the time that you are ovulating.
"When do I ovulate?" you might ask, to calculate this you can use our ovulation calculator below or you can calculate it yourself by:

• taking your average cycle length (the number of days from the first day of your period to the day before the start of your next period) e.g. 31 days
• then you count 14 days backwards, this will put your expected ovulation day at day 17 of a 31 day cycle. If you have a 28-day cycle then you expected ovulation day would be day 14.

You should aim to start having intercourse 3 days prior to your ovulation day, either every 24, 36 or 48 hours.
This will increase you chances of falling pregnant. The egg only lives for 24 hours, but sperm can remain alive in the fallopian tubes for up to 72 hours.
It is best to have the sperm "waiting" in you fallopian tubes when the egg is released.
